Nicole Kidman best known as Oscar-Winner and former wife of Tom Cruise was born on June 20, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii (USA) to Anthony and Janelle, Nicole has a younger sister Antonia. Nicole spent the first three years of her life in Washington D.C. Her father, Anthony, a biochemist and clinical psychologist, pursued his research on breast cancer before returning to their native Sydney, Australia. Also her father, is an author who lectures over psychology and biochemistry and her mother, is a nurse and educator who edits her husband's books.

Nicole in her childhood learned ballet, mime and drama. Nicole stared out her performing arts career as a ballet dancer and shortly afterwards at the age of 10 she convinced her parents to enroll her in a drama school. At the age of 16 Nicole dropped out of High School to pursue her love of acting. In 1983, she appeared in the Australian holiday show Bush Christmas. That appearance touched off a flurry of film and TV offers, including a lead in Australian series BMX Bandits, also in 1983. When Nicole was 17 she was a singer in a four girls and three-guy band named Divine Madness, it was also that. In 1986 Nicole appeared in a mini series titled Vietnam in which she portrayed a Vietnam schoolgirl protester and won an Australian Film Institute Award. With the help of an American agent, Nicole appeared in her first film Dead Calm with Sam Neil and Billy Zane in 1989. Her next film is with Tom Cruise named Days of Thunder (1990). After that the couple eventually wed in Telluride, Colorado on December 24, 1990. The couple adopted two children Isabella Rose (1993) and Connor Anthony (1995). Batman Forever, though not her best performance, still probably stands out as her first 'mega-movie' and was only a stepping stone for the many more movies that followed. As it always happens with Hollywood couples, the career strain proved too great, the couple gets separated in July 2001. Nicole then suffered a miscarriage. They are separated after 10 years of marriage. The stars' breakup isn't expected to affect their screen careers or their business relationship. In fact, the pair has only appeared in three films together. "Citing the difficulties inherent in divergent careers, which constantly keep them apart, they concluded that an amicable separation seems best for both of them at this time, " their spokesperson, Pat Kingsley, said.

The off camera Nicole is just as amazing as the people she plays on screen. Being a cancer advocate for breast cancer after her mothers battle with it when Nicole was seventeen, Nicole has worked with the UCLA Woman's Reproductive Cancer Program since 1995 and for the past seven years has served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund in Australia.

On December 20, 2001 Nicole made Golden Globe history for being nominated for both Moulin Rouge (Best Actress in a Musical Or Comedy) and The Others (Best Actress in a Drama). With two more films due to be released in 2002 and a certain Oscar Nomination in her favor, it looks like Nicole really will survive.

Kidman won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, along with Best Actress Awards from the Boston Film Critics, National Broadcast Film Critics, London Film Critics, and the Seattle Film Festival. She was also nominated by BAFTA in the Best Actress category. In 2003 she wins Best Actress Oscar Award for film The Hours.
